Scottish Championship Starts To Heat Up!

Written by FaerieQueenofAlbion

As we move into the back half of the year, competition starts to heat up for the Scottish Championship.

After only two Tournaments delivering full points in the first half of the year - Mulligans and ReekieBowl - in the second half of the year they come thick and fast. Glasbowl kicks us off tomorrow, and then a rapid-fire pace of one scoring tournament a month until JingleBowl in December. And because of the shift in the Championship to run from National to National, the final Tournament of this Championship looks likely to be either Kinning Clash or Banchory Blitz in February 2026.

But what’s that noise, whispering in the wind?

booooooonnnnnnnuuuuuuuuusssssssssssssssssss poooiiinttttsssssssssssss

STC and Dundee Doubles both award Bonus Points to coaches in the Top 5 teams; and both of these tournaments count for full points for the more important trophies: the Golden Westie Stunty Championship, and the Golden Coo Rookie Championship. And these bonus points have shaken up the standings.

Golden Unicorn

Going into the second half of the year, Gerdleah has edged into the lead of the Scottish Championship with strong showings in both STC and Dundee Doubles: on top of his 4th-place finish at Mulligans Open it’s enough to put him in the lead of 38 points; and with 3 Tournaments entered, he’s now eligible for the Championship. It’s still all to play for though - there are 7 other coaches on ten or more points with 3 Tournaments played; and there are enough tournaments still coming up for someone to come out of nowhere and get themselves to the top.

Golden Westie

Your author here is the reigning Stunty Champion, and if I’m honest it’s the race I care most about, whilst I watch to see who will be my successor, lifting the Golden Westie and becoming the next Captain of ASS - the Alba Stunty Squad. The Stunty Championship is still anyone’s to play for: so far, no Coach has picked up points for it in more than one Tournament. Tiny Titans also counts for this, though with no Bonus Points. A 5-way tie between Kuiei-Jin, HighlandEnoch, Bolter, JackH, and theBunneh on 30 points could very easily be overtaken by anyone.

Golden Coo

The most important award: the player new to the Tournament Scene with the best record. At the moment, Stretchit has a solid lead on 60 points having been Top Rookie in two different Tournaments; but DavidMcNicol and RMBYoung are snapping at his heels with one win each, and MFarrell87 is building up a solid record with two third-place Rookie finishes from two tournaments.

You can see the full tables of scores for all of these on the Scottish Series page.

And we cannot forget the Golden Eagle for Sportsperson of the Year, and Golden Forth Road Bridge for Best Best Painted. These will both be put to a vote in the New Year, with photos of the Best Painted from every tournament; and nominations for Sportsperson opening in January.

So with three tight Championships as it stands, Glasbowl tomorrow could change things a lot. After that, the next tournaments in this year’s Championship Series will be:
