Keith Keeps Kool(?) 'mid Moray Mayhem

Our most recent SBBC-sanctioned tournament report is from back in June where Keithabix came top of the pile in Elgin with his Brets. We caught up with the new Mayhem champion to find out how he did it.

Congrats on the win! Tell me: how long have you been playing and what are your favourite races?

I started playing online with a group of school friends around May 2021. I then joined the Éire BB (Irish Blood Bowl League) online around the end of 2021. Fast forward a year I ended up moving to Aberdeen and took up tabletop playing with the Seagulls and was instantly hooked by the game and fantastic scene in Aberdeen. The guys introduced me to tournaments and this weekend I hit my 50th tournament after 3 years of playing!

Now, specifically for Mayhem: what made you choose the honourable Bretonnians?

I'm on a mission to tick off all the races. Mayhem Bowl brought me up to 27 races played in NAF. I originally wanted to take Skorg Brets but after seeing a skill tax I decided Grombrindal would have to do!

Not this time, buddy...
Not this time, buddy...

Who did you play against, how did you feel the matchups went?

I played against Terry (Grumpy Noodle) and his Orcs, Calum (Shyrike) and his overpowered high elves and in the final match up I played against last year's Granite Bowl champion (Mailljm0404) with his Imperial Nobility. fake Brets vs the real deal!

The game against Terry was always going to be tough with me being a AV8 team and him having 3 MB so it was just about sticking in there. There was a bit of a BS play on my short drive back after he scored where I had to pick up the ball use nerves of steel to pass it to my one scoring threat who just about stayed on his feet surviving 6 dice the previous turn. He was marked by 3 or 4 guys where his nerves of steel came in clutch and then it was just a simple 5+ dodge 3+ dodge to score haha.

My game against Calum's helves was close as well where I had to roll some similar BS dice to score on my drive a 344322 or something haha. Second half he made a bit of a mistake on the LoS which lead to me piling on the pressure in the back field and him trying to do a makeshift 3 turn with a dragon prince who ended up snaking a rush to get away. After that it was a tight game still. The white lions picking off my knights and we survived a couple of 5+ dodges in to be sacked! Eventually did get sacked turn 7 only for Grombrindal magnet hands to save the day and went on to score his TD!

The final game against Mailljm0404 was decided a lot by the dice. A good defense from the Brets kept the Nobs restricted to their own half. But with the numbers game against them it was a comfortable enough game for the Brets.

What advice do you have for coaches looking to go along to this tournament?

Just go and have fun the Moray lads put on a really good day out and have a fantastic new venue. The lunch might just be the best in Scotland now! Pretty close with the Dominion ones of yester year. Highly recommend heading up the road to Elgin for next year's instalment. This was my second year having picked up most touchdowns last year there!

Thanks Keith - and congrats again on the win!
