Captain builds a squad aiming for a top ten finish in Warsaw
Team Scotland’s Selection Committee met last week having pored over the coach data to finalise the line up for the Scotland Squad who’ll be heading to Warsaw, Poland in October this year to represent the community at Eurobowl XVII.
The selection meeting was a meaty two hour affair after another year of strong application numbers from an ever improving pot of Scottish coaches who travelled far and wide in 2025 to gain experience and improve their game. When asked about Eurobowl and the prospective squad Jock, the Captain, had this to say,
“I’m really pleased with the number and strength of applications we received this year. Blood Bowl in Scotland continues to grow from strength-to-strength and we’ve got some coaches who’d previously been capped come back into the mix. I’m hopeful we’ll see at least forty Scottish coaches looking to experience the fun of Eurobowl for another record breaking year of attendance.”
What are Scotland’s ambitions now that hosting rights have been secured?
For many a year Team Scotland’s principal objective when attending Eurobowl was to win the fated hosting rights that seemed to allude them, particularly when they lost out on tiebreak at Eurobowl XII in Portugal. However, Hungary was the year of success where the Scotland team edged out Lithuania to win rights to host Eurobowl XVIII in 2028.

So the question is now what? Jock wasn’t backwards at coming forward with his ambitions for Poland,
“Not only did Scotland win hosting rights in Budapest but we achieved a top-half finish, something we set out to do. It is arguably our strongest result, certainly in the ‘modern era’, since Eurobowl VI in Italy way back in 2008 where we came fifth out of twelve nations.
We narrowly lost out to Finland in Budapest and looking at the depth of the squad I have at my disposal the ambition will be to go on and secure a top ten finish in Warsaw. I believe we’ve got the quality and the hunger to go even better than we did last year.”
Team Scotland Squad Line-up
Team Scotland have selected a Squad of sixteen made up of the official Bowl and Open teams of eight and four, and the Team Scotland Futures, as an additional Open team who have the potential to gain selection at a future Eurobowl.
The squad of twelve sees two old faces return to the fold and three new (!) faces added to the squad as stalwarts like Valen and Loki take a step back having achieved their long-held ambition of hosting rights.

A closer look at the Scotland Squad
Let’s take a look at the line-up and what they bring to the party!
The Skipper
Jock, second year as captain, is building a reputation as a formidable elf-coach. He went undefeated 4-2-0 with High Elves in Budapest whilst securing the number one spot for the race with an Elo north of 250+. He’ll be hoping to lead the charge with more of the same in Warsaw.

Vice Captain
Sann, six-time capped, Scotland’s data guru, former NAF President, best Black Orcs coach at the last World Cup is a veritable Swiss army knife who brings a level head to the team and will no doubt back-up Jock as they pair-up to navigate a top-ten finish.

A wise head
Purdindas, four-time Scotland Captain and most capped Scotland player with seven caps is back in the fold. He’s a great voice to have in the dressing room, and is a lot of fun when the beer is flowing.

Returning to the fold
Both JackH and Mournival are stepping back into the fray having taken a breather from Eurobowl. JackH a phenomenal coach who was seen playing two boards at once at last year’s Scottish Team Championship chalking up a credible 6-1-3 result with Lizards and Ogres!
Whilst Mournival, debuted in Greece in 2024, had the season of his life last year with Woodies and is ready to spring into action for Team Scotland.
The Backbone
The backbone of the squad will come from a group of coaches who’ve been involved in the Squad before. Welcome to Camelchops, Shriyke, Sporran and Talonbay.

Camelchops performed admirably as the team’s go man with Skaven last year, whilst Shriyke piloted Lizards to an impressive undefeated tournament in Hungary. Sporran, former NAF Champion is no stranger to being hard to beat, whilst Talonbay brings a sense of race-flexibility to the team, which will be much needed as we try to crack the code of the new Season and the tournament meta as the rules evolve in the next few months.
The Debutants
It’s always great to see new faces come through into Team Scotland with a warm welcome to Blitzy, Fromherashes and L0rdGibby.
Blitzy chalked up an impressive three NAF wins last season including knocking off Thrud at his first time of asking. He also stepped in as a last minute replacement to the Scotland Open team in Hungary, rattling in an impressive scoreline of 3-3-0.
Talking of impressive scorelines, Fromherashes, as Captain of last year’s Scotland Futures, led the line with a 3-3-0 result in Hungary and looks ready to step-up into the full squad for Poland.
L0rdGibby is another coach who had an impressive season with Wood Elves, chasing Mournival all the way. Scotland has gone from having a lack of elf-coaches to a surfeit with three elf-specialists making the line-up. The question for Jock to solve will be how to fit them all in.
Numbers behind the names
If you’re a Blood Bowl coach then at some level you’ll be a stat nerd. Take a look at the open data dashboard the Selection Committee used to inform their selection.
With thanks as always to Sann for compiling the Scotland metrics, MrNeibling & Tank for their work on the Danish Elo ranking view and the NAF for maintaining the records and the regularly updated Annual Elo table.
