I’m #1… for Now*

*in Scotland, at Skaven, in May 2025

by Camelchops, Team Scotland's Skaven Coach

I’m Camelchops, one of the new members of Team Scotland, and I’ve been eager to contribute something to the community. Like many others, I rediscovered Blood Bowl after more than 20 years away—fell back in love with it online—then transitioned into tabletop tournaments in late ’22.

One of the things that I’ve thoroughly appreciated is being able to track my improvement (or lack thereof) through the many stats available for online play and the NAF records. Crossing the 200 ELO mark with Skaven in ’23—after the double-points World Cup—felt like the ultimate vindication of my 'Year of the Rat' strategy. I wasn’t just dabbling; I was committed to mastering them.

However, recently, I had another good-dice tournament and reached a new milestone; top ranked Skaven coach in Scotland. I could have just muttered this to my not-so-enthusiastic wife—or ignored it entirely, knowing a single bad tournament would wipe the record clean. But instead, I’m using it as motivation for this post.

This isn’t cherry-picking stats to make records look good—these comparisons genuinely matter. Blood Bowl thrives on variety, and with 30 races, we don’t just have one #1 player, but a whole league of race specialists vying for the top spot. Recognizing race leaders creates meaningful targets, whether it’s chasing a ranking milestone or knocking BB_Jock off the top Vampires slot. Importantly, these data will help the selectors of the National team as part of the wider suite of stats outlined in recent posts.

Indeed, this post should really be called “I’m #1…Part 1”, because it’s just the beginning. Moving forward, with Sann's help we'll be able to track the current race-leaders, highlighting shifts after major tournaments, and keeping an eye on the targets at the top. With the Scottish Team Championships wrapped up and NAFC earlier this month, now is the perfect time to start.

Here’s our first list of #1s—or if you prefer, 'the targets.' Let’s see how long they hold their spots.
