Doonhamer Bowl 1 Review

By Simon Whitehouse @CursedofNuffle

So I had the pleasure of running my second tournament Doonhamer Bowl back on the 4th April 26. Whenever I run a tournament I always start off with the 2 same goals which are, make sure everyone attending has fun and secondly can I raise money for a charity. I act as the TO for Blood Bowl tournaments for my local gaming club Dumfries Gamers.

So with planning for this tournament I waited for the 3rd Season rules to come out and then I used the Games Workshop tiers apart from a couple of moves which was obvious that where placed wrong. I also had to decide on a charity, and I was helped with this by a club member coming up and asking if we could support the Blood Bikes Charity as he rides for them. So with rules written and the charity selected I need to start getting some sponsors to kindly donate to the event otherwise I wouldn't raise any money. Luckily the Blood Bowl Community is very generous and had great prizes and gifts I could provide the people attending. Please see below all the sponsors the tournament, if you are running yours I'd highly recommend reaching out to these for yours.

The tournament was 3 games played over the day. 34 coaches hit the astrogranite to fight to be crowned the top team. The scoring system was 30pts for a win, 15pts for a draw and 5pts loss. Also you got a point for every TD and CAS, I did this to encourage people scoring more TDs and not doing the 2-1 grind. This didn't really work and the 5pts for a loss affected the final standings so for next year I will revise this and really think of a better way to do this.

Over the lunch period Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes came in to see what this amazing game was all about and they were amazed with the level of hobby and that us playing this game are willing to raise money for charity in such a way.

On the lead up to the tournament and on the day I was saling tickets for a raffle to win the game Stunty Toss donated by Hearth Forge Games which won by @marriotta or a Tournament Dice Tower donated by Cowan Games which was won by @Spooner. As a stunty coach I own a copy of Stunty Toss so I set that up so people could play in between their games.

Also over lunch coaches set out their teams to be voted for best painted by the other coaches and it was @DrDapertutto one of the local coaches who won with his amazing Nurgle team.

To conclude it was a fun day with some learing points for next year. I would like to thank everyone who attended or dontated as we rasied a massive £515 for the charity and that can not be done with the amazing people with have in our community.

I hope to see everyone again next year and hopefully some new faces, so please save the date of Saturday 3rd April 2027 for Doonhamer Bowl 2.
