Scotland’s Top 40 is Back!

Who’s up, who’s down? Let's check out the movers and shakers of Scottish Bloodbowl!
Off the back of Camelchops’s recent look at number #1 Scottish coaches of different races coupled with the fact that the wizards of Danish Blood Bowl have re-established their connection to the NAF database I thought it was time to revive Scotland’s Top 40 - or Top of the Pops if you’re of that generation!

If you’re not familiar with what I’m talking about then head over to Denmark’s Blood Bowl site where they record and update on a monthly basis some core statistics that they use to select the Danish team for Eurobowl. Thanks to Tank and MrNeibling who put in the work to maintain this public view - which allows me to filter by Scotland to take a quick read of the state of play.
I started recording the month-by-month Scotland Top 40 back in October last year, just as a curiosity to see how different coaches were doing and to feed into the selection process as one metric for Team Scotland for Eurobowl. You can see the raw data here.
What is it we’re tracking in Scotland’s Top 40?
Current Coach Elo - calculated across all of the races that a coach has played
Year High Elo - a coach’s high point in the last twelve months, indicating their form
All-time High Elo - enables us to contrast a coach’s current form against their all-time peak.
Current no loss streak and all-time no loss streak (which I won’t publish in the tables in this blog, I don’t think streaks are massively important)
Total games played - credence has to be given to coaches who have played 100+ games over those who have far fewer games played. More data points means more trust.
Win Percentage - does what it says on the tin
One tweak that I’ve started from this month (June ‘25) is to screen out coaches who have a zero for ‘Year High Elo’. This implies they’ve not played any Blood Bowl this year so shouldn’t be in contention for selection, if they’re not playing.
Up until now since I started tracking this data I’d post a link to the spreadsheet on the Scottish Facebook and discord channels without much commentary on a monthly basis when the data was refreshed. Going forward I’m intending to review progress ‘once a quarter’ as movement month-by-month could potentially be too short a time frame to see meaningful change.
Changes in the Top 10 between January and May
The first half of the blood bowl year is always a busy one, with tournaments such as the Welsh National, Waterbowl, NAF Champs, our very own Mulligan’s; Scotland’s NAF National and most recently the Scottish Team Championships to name but a few weighty tournaments. The Top 10 based on current Coach Elo are as below:

Six of the Top 10 coaches in January held their station in the upper ranks by the end of May, albeit with some movement. Sporran shuffled down two to fourth, Sann found himself down three spots to sixth whilst Gerdleah moved up three from tenth to seventh.
There were four new faces that made appearance in the Top 10, with a notable rise of seven places seeing Camelchops climb to the heady heights of number #2 and Loki, a familiar face in the Scotland set-up having a strong season so far rising to eighth within touching distance of his all-time high Elo.
Brand new to the list is DazzaMac, a tasty Undead coach, whilst HuntlyLoon rose seven places to round out the top ten with three solid tournaments piloting Humans.One thing to note is all of the Top 10 have recorded more than one hundred matches, perhaps practice does make perfect.

The Top 40 - movers and shakers
I’ll not cast extensive commentary on everyone in the Top 40 - the table is below you’ll be able see for yourself. However shout outs to the movers and shakers for this quarter:
Biggest mover - L0rdGibby climbed twenty three places to find himself 14th as he focuses on mastering his woodies clocking an impressive 9 - 3 - 2 across three tournaments including Mulligan’s and the recent Scottish Team Championship.
Team Scotland Coaches in form - both Purdindas and Shriyke having positive first halves of the year by climbing 17 and 12 spots respectively to crack the Top 15.
All time high (PB) - Shout out to Goldeneye who has reached new heights with a PB, climbing eleven spots to round out the Top 20.
New Faces - with seven new coach names appearing in the Top 40 it’s always good to see coaches develop their game. Keep an eye out for DazzaMac, Ghislop, Bazooka25, StuntedBrain, Conalmaker, DexterSpaceport and Aldopagus
